Care

Leather does not need much. It needs the right little.

Almost all leather damage comes from three things: heat used to dry it out, plastic used to store it, and too much product applied too often. Everything below follows from avoiding those.

01

After every trip

Empty it, turn it out, and wipe the outside with a dry cloth. Grit left in a seam is what eventually cuts the stitching.

02

If it gets wet

Blot it with a dry cloth and let it dry at room temperature, away from radiators, hairdryers and direct sun. Heat is what makes leather go hard and brittle, not water.

03

Two or three times a year

Work a thin, even layer of colourless balm in with a cloth, leave it an hour, then buff. Test a hidden area first — colour will deepen.

04

When the finish stops beading

On chrome-tanned items with a water-repellent finish, the same balm partly restores it. Partly. It will never come back to new.

05

Between trips

Store in a cotton dust bag, loosely, somewhere dry. Never in plastic — leather sealed in a warm cupboard will grow mould within a season.

What patina actually is

Vegetable-tanned leather darkens where light and hands reach it. Within a season a passport cover carried in a jacket pocket is visibly two-tone, and the fold has a permanent crease. This is the material working as intended, not a fault, and it is not grounds for us to refuse a withdrawal within the statutory period — but it does mean a returned item is only resaleable if it has been handled carefully, so please keep that in mind while you are deciding.

How the 14-day withdrawal works

Care product safety

Test on a small hidden area first and let it dry fully before treating the whole item. Colour may deepen.

Use in a ventilated room. Keep away from children and pets. Avoid contact with eyes. Do not swallow.

For hygiene and safety reasons, opened care products cannot be taken back. Your statutory rights in respect of defective goods are unaffected.

Things not to do

  • Do not put leather in a washing machine, a tumble dryer or a dishwasher.
  • Do not use saddle soap, solvent cleaners, alcohol wipes or household detergent.
  • Do not dry it on a radiator, in a car in summer, or with a hairdryer.
  • Do not store it in a plastic bag or an airtight box.
  • Do not overload a zip pouch and then force the zip — that is how a slider fails.
  • Do not clean the transparent window on the Clear-Pouch Companion with alcohol or solvent; TPU crazes. A damp cloth only.
