Right of withdrawal, returns and refunds
Consumers in the European Union have 14 days to withdraw from a distance contract without giving any reason. This page sets out that right in full, the two statutory exceptions that apply in this shop, and exactly how a return works.

Right of withdrawal
You have the right to withdraw from this contract within 14 days without giving any reason.
The withdrawal period is 14 days from the day on which you, or a third party other than the carrier and indicated by you, took physical possession of the goods. Where an order is delivered in several partial shipments, the period runs from the day on which you took possession of the last item.
To exercise the right of withdrawal, you must inform us — HMT Lederwaren Import GmbH, Eichenstraße 56, 65933 Frankfurt am Main, Germany, email support@hmtlederwaren.shop, telephone +49 1796986554 — of your decision to withdraw from this contract by an unequivocal statement (for example a letter sent by post or an email). You may use the model withdrawal form set out below, but this is not obligatory.
To meet the withdrawal deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right of withdrawal before the withdrawal period has expired. You do not have to give a reason and we will not ask for one.
Consequences of withdrawal
If you withdraw from this contract, we shall reimburse you all payments received from you, including the costs of delivery (with the exception of the supplementary costs resulting from your choice of a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us), without undue delay and in any event not later than 14 days from the day on which we are informed about your decision to withdraw.
We will carry out such reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in no event will you be charged any fees as a result of such reimbursement. We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back, or until you have supplied evidence of having sent back the goods, whichever is the earlier.
You shall send back the goods or hand them over to us without undue delay and in any event not later than 14 days from the day on which you communicate your withdrawal from this contract to us. The deadline is met if you send back the goods before the period of 14 days has expired.
You are only liable for any diminished value of the goods resulting from the handling other than what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods. In plain terms: you may unpack an item, look at it, try the zip and see whether it fits your case. Vegetable-tanned leather darkens slightly with handling and this alone is not a diminution of value.
Exceptions — read this before you order
Two statutory exceptions apply to products sold in this shop. They are set out in §312g(2) BGB and they are not our policy choices — they are the law, and they cannot be waived by us in your favour after the fact.
1. Personalised items (embossing)
Under §312g(2)(1) BGB, the right of withdrawal does not apply to goods that are made to the consumer’s specifications or are clearly personalised. Any item you order with blind embossing falls into this category, because a name or set of initials pressed into leather cannot be removed and the item cannot be resold.
Because of this we require a separate, explicit tick at checkout, alongside a red-bordered notice, before any embossed item can be ordered. If you are not certain, order the item without embossing — your full 14-day right then applies.
Every other item in the same order keeps the full right of withdrawal. The exception applies only to the embossed items themselves.
2. Opened care products
Under §312g(2)(4) BGB, the right of withdrawal does not apply to sealed goods which are not suitable for return for reasons of health protection or hygiene once the seal has been removed after delivery.
The tin of leather balm in the Travel Care Cloth & Balm Duo is supplied sealed. If the seal is unbroken you may withdraw normally. Once opened, that tin cannot be taken back. The cotton cloth supplied with it is unaffected, as is every other item in the order.
Your statutory rights in respect of defective goods are not affected by this in any way — see below.
How to return an item
- Tell us first. Email support@hmtlederwaren.shop with your order reference, or send the form below. This is what stops the clock.
- Wait for the return address. We reply within one business day with the return address and a note of anything that needs to go back with the item. Please do not send returns to the registered office address unprompted.
- Pack it so it survives the journey. The original box is ideal. Include the dust bag and any insert cards that came with the item.
- Send it with a tracked service and keep the proof of postage. Proof of sending is what protects you if a parcel goes missing.
Who pays for the return
You bear the direct cost of returning the goods when you withdraw under the 14-day right. This is permitted under §357(6) BGB and we are telling you before you order, as the law requires. As a guide, a small parcel within Germany typically costs between €4.00 EUR and €7.00 EUR; from elsewhere in the EU it is usually between €10.00 EUR and €20.00 EUR.
We pay the return cost where the item is faulty, damaged in transit, incorrectly described or not what you ordered. In that case do not pay for postage yourself — contact us and we will arrange it.
Refunds
- Refunds are issued to the original payment method. We cannot refund to a different one.
- We refund the item price plus the standard outbound delivery cost. If you chose an express delivery option, we refund the standard rate and you bear the difference.
- The refund is issued within 14 days of us receiving your withdrawal notice, and we may wait until the goods arrive back or you show proof of posting, whichever is earlier.
- How long the money takes to appear afterwards depends on your bank or card issuer, usually between two and ten business days. That part is outside our control.
- If only part of an order is returned, any free-shipping threshold is recalculated on the items you keep, and a shipping charge may be deducted if the retained order falls below the threshold.

Faulty goods — a separate and longer right
The right of withdrawal above is about changing your mind. It is completely separate from your rights if something is defective.
Under German statutory warranty law (§§434 ff. BGB) you have two years from delivery in which to raise a defect that was present when the goods were handed over. A failed seam, a zip slider that separates, a stud that pulls through the leather or a delaminating finish are defects. Normal wear, deliberate patina, a crease at a fold, and colour deepening with light are not.
These statutory rights apply in full to embossed personalised items and to opened care products, notwithstanding the withdrawal exceptions above. Send a photograph and your order reference to support@hmtlederwaren.shop and we will deal with it.
